Poor sanitation and hygiene lead to some forms of blindness.

Public Health

The Himalayan Cataract Project, with the help of Mr. Mark Daniell, is working with the government of Bhutan to develop an overall public health eye-care program designed to reach every citizen in the country. This involves training ophthalmic assistants for every health post in Bhutan as well as training all primary school teachers to give vitamin A to their students and to screen for eye diseases. We are developing similar blindness prevention programs in Sikkim and Tibet.
