Cataract Outreach in Rwanda

news | Apr 24, 2017

Rwanda International Institute of Ophthalmology hosts HCP Affiliated Ophthalmologists for cataract outreach.

HCP Affiliated Ophthalmologists Dr. Sam Cady and Dr. Seth Krawitz traveled to Rwanda to work with HCP partner Dr. John Nkurikiye of the Rwanda International Institute of Ophthalmology (RIIO) at an outreach from April 15-22. RIIO was founded in 2011 to enhance eye health education, provide technical advice, support the delivery of ophthalmic services, and promote eye health. The team provided 71 cataract surgeries for patients with mature cataracts over the course of two operational days, at Kibogora and Bushenge Hospitals. This was the first time in 4 years that eye surgery was performed at Kibogora and the first time ever at Bushenge.
