HCP Trainees Making a Difference

news | Mar 17, 2015

Training is at the very core of the Himalayan Cataract Project’s mission. We are so proud of those who are working to complete their training with a desire to improve quality of eye care and overall health in their respective countries.

Two such doctors are Dr. Hilda Amponsah and Dr. Wah Wah Lwin.

Dr. Amponsah, a resident from Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana, recently completed a three-week surgical rotation at Tamale Teaching Hospital under Dr. Judith Simon. Dr. Amponsah passed her board exams and is now a board-certified ophthalmologist. She’ll be working in the Brong-Ahafo region of Ghana, where she’ll be the only practicing ophthalmologist for more than 2.5 million people.

Dr. Lwin has completed her retina fellowship at the Tilganga Insitute of Ophthalmology. Dr. Lwin will be returning to her post at Yangon Eye Hospital in Myanmar, where she will be one of only three retina specialists for roughly 54 million people.

Congratulations to Dr. Amponsah and Dr. Lwin. They are making an enormous difference for their communities and will have a great impact for eye health on a global scale.
