Honorees are organizations who have earned either 3 or 4 stars from Charity Navigator, their highest ratings, and whose 100&Change proposals were in the top 25 percent of submissions evaluated by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. According to a Charity Navigator press release, each organization was evaluated on financial efficiency and capacity, in addition to accountability and transparency to the general public.

Charity Navigator ratings show donors how efficiently they believe a charity will use its support today, and to what extent the charity is growing its programs and services over time. In March 2017, HCP received the honor of an Exceptional rating and our our 7th consecutive 4 star rating.

“Attaining a 4-star rating verifies that Himalayan Cataract Project exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in your area of work. Only 3% of the charities we evaluate have received at least 7 consecutive 4 star evaluations, indicating that Himalayan Cataract Project outperforms most other charities in America. This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets Himalayan Cataract Project apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness.” -Charity Navigator

HCP is one of 8 semi-finalists in the 100&Change competition and currently preparing for the next phase of the competition where MacArthur’s Board will select up to five 100&Change finalists in September. Finalists will present their proposals during a live event on December 11, 2017, before the Board names a single recipient to receive $100 million over up to six years.
