National Plan for Myanmar

news | Jul 21, 2015

HCP participated in a National Stakeholder Consultation Workshop to develop an action plan for eye health in Myanmar.

A workshop, organized by WHO, IAPB and The Fred Hollows Foundation, was attended by representatives from Myanmar's Ministry of Health, public health sector and international NGOs, such as Helen Keller International, and Sight for All. A draft plan will be submitted to WHO for approval in September.

HCP's work in Myanmar started in 2013 when Dr. Tin Win, Chair of Ophthalmology at the Yangon Eye Hospital, invited HCP co-founder Dr. Sanduk Ruit to help raise the quality of eye care in the country.

HCP has provided training for eye care professionals, support for cataract and cornea surgical workshops and state-of-the-art ophthalmology equipment – supported by USAID.
