Resident Ready to Make a Difference

news | Jun 04, 2015

Dr. Mihiret Deyessa is an ophthalmology resident from Menelik II Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She recently traveled with the Himalayan Cataract Project to our high-volume cataract campaign in Woldia, where she worked under the tutelage of Drs. Geoff Tabin and Tilahun Kiros.

Dr. Mihiret has just completed her surgical rotation at Quiha Zonal Hospital.

Between the campaign in Woldia and her rotation at Quiha Zonal Hospital this year, she performed more than 160 cataract surgeries, as well as 30 other surgeries — a tremendous accomplishment.

Dr. Mihiret will become one of a few eye surgeons for thousands dealing with cataract blindness.
