HCP receives new USAID grant for Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Nepal

At the end of September 2010, HCP received notice from USAID/ASHA confirming a $700,000 grant (on a $982,000 project budget) to support the ongoing development of the Tilganga Institute of Ophthamology (TIO) in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The grant includes support for a renewable energy project utilizing cutting edge US solar technology, continued procurement of advanced surgical equipment and provision of resources to support ongoing modernization of TIO management systems.

HCP’s Job Heintz was thrilled with the news: “I am very appreciative of USAID/ASHA’s ongoing support establishing a world class eye center with our partners in Nepal. This grant is very exciting in that we’ll be demonstrating state of the art US solar technology in South Asia while continuing to address the economic sustainability of the eye center.”

USAID-ASHA has been a critical partner in the Tilganga expansion since 2003.
