Community Eye Hospitals
Community Eye Hospitals are the next step beyond a Community Eye Center and serve as surgical facilities. Such facilities are staffed by ophthalmic assistants and at least one ophthalmologist who can perform surgery onsite.
HCP is supporting the development of a Community Eye Hospital in Hetauda, Nepal. Site work and construction took place between 2005 and 2007 and the hospital is expected to open in late 2008.
The HCP has also helped establish and supports two community eye hospitals in northern India, and Tibet: the Jomgon Kongtrol Eye Centre in Kalimpong, India and the Lhasa Institute of Eye Care in Lhasa, Tibet.
