HCP Partners with UK-based London Vision Clinic and Dr. Dan Reinstein on Refractive Surgery Unit at Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology

Dr. Dan Reinstein

HCP will partner with London Vision Clinic and Professor Dan Reinstein to develop a dynamic refractive surgery program at Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Nepal that will serve as a model for addressing refractive error in the developing world.  London Vision Clinic, led and founded by Professor Dan Reinstein, is on the forefront of laser technology and treatment, and Professor Reinstein brings a unique combination of expertise and experience.  London Vision Clinic and Professor Reinstein are working with the HCP to provide critical training for a refractive team from Nepal at their clinic in London, to provide cutting edge laser technology to the new center at Tilganga and to provide expertise and mentorship to the new refractive surgery center. HCP welcomes Reinstein as Director of Refractive Surgery on our Medical Advisory Board.

In October 2009, USAID’s Office of American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) agreed to provide a $700,000 grant to support renovation of the former Tilganga outpatient clinic for purpose of housing the new center, as well as support the procurement of some of the necessary commodities.  Together with project partners London Vision Clinic and Medical Eye Center (Oregon), the HCP believes that the establishment of the refractive surgery center is both critical for Tilganga’s cost recovery and an important step in developing a successful model for addressing refractive error in the developing world with far-reaching humanitarian applicability.
