Technology & Procurement Program

As eye care activities increase throughout the Himalayas and Sub-Saharan Africa, the Himalayan Cataract Project has responded by bolstering our procurement program.

The HCP procurement program continually sources the best options for ophthalmic equipment to send to program sites. We take on the responsibility of purchasing, mapping and maintaining these items.

HCP outfits clinics with $1-2M worth of specialized equipment, supplies and furniture each year for programs in 25 countries, extending even beyond HCP-specific programs.

These materials are critical in bringing high-quality eye care services to remote corners of the world.

One microscope acquired by a clinic in a developing country can translate into the opportunity to provide thousands of life-restoring surgeries.

Based in Silver Spring, Maryland, our procurement program is led by Bill Shields, who has more than 35 years of ophthalmology, engineering and management expertise.
