Ground Breaking Ceremony for Bhutan National Eye Center

Co-founder Dr. Sanduk Ruit attends the official launching of the Gyalyum Kesang Choeden Wangchuck National Eye Center in Bhutan.

On March 22, 2017, Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP) co-founder Dr. Sanduk Ruit attended the official launching of the Gyalyum Kesang Choeden Wangchuck National Eye Center in Bhutan, named after Her Majesty The Royal Queen Grandmother. The new structure will be built on the premises of Jigme Dorje Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (“JDWNRH”), serving as the sole tertiary eye center in the country. Bhutanese Ministers and other high level officials attended the ceremony. Dr. Ruit and Ms. Mei Wen of Wen Giving addressed the audience, thanking the Royal Government of Bhutan and all involved in the project.

Himalayan Cataract Project has partnered with the Royal Government of Bhutan since 2000 to enhance the country’s primary eye care program by providing support for outreach, training and the provision of ophthalmic equipment. Learn more about our work in Bhutan here.
