Post-Earthquake Outreach Continues in Nepal

news | Dec 30, 2015

HCP's flagship partner, the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (TIO), led by HCP co-founder Dr. Sanduk Ruit, held an outreach in the Nuwakot region in early December.

Nuwakot, Nepal is among the regions that were most affected by the devastating earthquakes that shook the country this past spring.

Upon arrival in Nuwakot, a team from TIO went to work to provide much-needed upgrades to the areas where the surgeries would be performed. Soon the outreach campaign, sponsored in part by Seeing is Believing, was able to begin.

Under the leadership of Dr. Ruit, local ophthalmologists, nurses and ophthalmic assistants performed 288 cataract surgeries for those suffering unnecessarily in darkness. As you can see from the pictures below, the return of light means the return of joy.

We are so proud of the TIO team. Their resilience and work ethic is evident and despite what they have been through, they continue to provide cataract surgery to those most in need in Nepal.
