HCP supported retina eye care training and specialized equipment continue to help restore sight and change lives in Bhutan.

HCP has partnered with the Royal Government of Bhutan for more than 15 years to develop
a comprehensive eye care system with a strong focus on subspecialties, such as retina.

HCP trainee Dr. Bhim Rai completed his retina fellowship and is now working with highly-specialized equipment procured by HCP. The combined investment in both training and equipment contributed to this success story.

Tshering Penjor, a Bhutanese student studying architecture in India, was taking part in a friendly basketball game with fellow students when he sugared a severe eye injury in an accident on the court. Concerned about the potential for permanent vision loss, Tshering returned to Bhutan and underwent a successful surgery by Dr. Rai.

Penjor attributes his successful recovery to the training Dr. Rai received.

"My vision gradually improved with each passing day, as well as my confidence and happiness," said Tshering. "I shall always remain grateful to Dr. Bhim Rai and his team for giving me the joy of being able to see the world, as well as faith and confidence in the Bhutanese healthcare system."
