HCP partner completes cataract campaign in Ghana, providing 212 sight restoring procedures

HCP partner Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), in collaboration with Kwahu Government Hospital, organized a five day cataract surgical outreach campaign in Atibie, Ghana where 212 cataract surgeries were performed.

Below are photos of several patients who received sight restoring cataract surgery during this September 18 - 22 outreach along with their personal stories.

This teacher, who had difficulty teaching due to a cataract in her right eye, was filled with joy after her surgery to be able to see and go back to teach her students.

This bilaterally blind patient had become depressed due to her blindness. She has now been given a new lease on life.

This patient, unable to walk without assistance before she had cataracts removed from both her eyes, now walks without help.

This mother was filled with happiness to witness the results of her son’s sight restoring surgery, which restored sight to his right eye.

Here is one of our Ophthalmic Nurses, Abigail, as she sits with a happy patient after her surgery.

This woman was so happy she could see again that she could not stop smiling and thanked the surgeons.
